Housing and Institutions
Putnam County Health Department’s Housing Division issues permits and inspects a wide range of facilities with the purpose of ensuring a clean, safe and sanitary environment.
Permits
The Putnam County Health Department permits the following types of facilities:
- Child Care Centers
- Bed and Breakfasts
- Mobile Home Parks
- Hotels and Motels
- Public and Private Schools
Inspections
Putnam County Health Department inspects all permitted establishments in each program a minimum of two times a year, except public schools, which are inspected bi-annually. While child care facilities and mobile home parks have their own rules and regulations for inspections, programs such as bed & breakfasts, hotels/motels, public/private schools and public facilities are governed by the West Virginia’s General Sanitation Regulation.
Water & Sewage Inspections for Lending Institutions
Putnam County Health Department also conducts evaluations of water and sewage systems for lending institutions. Lending institutions require that a home with an individual sewage disposal system be inspected and approved before the closing of the sale. This is not a state-mandated program, however the Putnam County Health Department has, for many years, offered this important service to report the actual conditions found, regardless of who requests the service.
